Back to School and What It Means for Your Dog

With the new school year here, your kids aren’t going to be the only ones upset. Our furry friends have become used to the kids and family together, especially during quarantine. Some dogs or cats can become upset or sad when the family changes into the  new lifestyle of going to school every day.

One thing that dogs love and do best in is a routine. When your summer routine is changing up and school is starting, it is important to quickly acclimate to this new routine for your dog so that they can get more used to this schooling.

Dogs also are very good at picking up on emotions. When you show you are upset when you leave, your dog can pick up on that emotion and it will cause them to be more upset when you come and go.

The last two tips to focus on during this transitional period is to provide your dog with a lot of exercise and structure and to use a kennel for your dog.

When your furry friend is in the kennel a lot more than they are used to, they can get very restless and begin to hate the kennel rather than finding comfort in it. Make sure to exercise your dog and allow them to get a lot of their energy out. Also, using a kennel is a great option if you are going to be gone for longer periods of time.

Remember, that as long as you provide your dog with love and comfort, and keep them in a safe atmosphere, then you have nothing to worry about. Leaving your best friends at home can be tough, but that just means extra love when you get home to see them!
