- People Food
Incorporating vegetables into your dog’s diet is a great way to supplement dietary fiber and provide natural vitamins and minerals. Many veterinarians recommend including vegetables every day as a way to control excess weight gain in dogs.
Veggies that are safe for dogs include:
- Green beans
- Baby carrots
- Bell peppers
- Kale
- Cabbage
- Avocado
- Upgrade Treats
To follow the healthy diet you implemented for your pet, offer healthy treats as well. Read the label on your treats. You should be able to pronounce everything on the label. Or, opt for a veggie treat.
Consider ditching treats made of rawhide. Formaldehyde and other nasty chemicals are common in this treat, and can make your dog ill. More natural treats and bones will keep them just as happy, but healthier.
- Raw Meat
All species on the planet eat raw food except for humans. When we cook our food, we lose many beneficial nutrients. It’s the same when we cook food for our dogs. While certain whole foods may release more nutrients once cooked, it’s best to avoid cooking meat for your dog whenever possible.
- Coconut Oil
Unlike animal fats and other vegetable fats, raw coconut oil is unique. While it’s high in saturated fat, it’s a healthy one that mainly contains medium-chain fatty acids that the body doesn’t store.
Coconut oil can also help you manage your dog’s weight. Raw coconut oil goes straight to the liver where it gets converted into energy.
In return, causing your dog to exercise more often and stay leaner.
