Keeping your dog’s teeth clean is an important part of its health. There are precautions you can take to make sure your pet has proper oral health.
There are special dog toothbrushes that have soft bristles. As an alternative, you can use a finger toothbrush or a child’s toothbrush. There is even pet toothpaste specially made for your dog. It has a dog-friendly taste like poultry. Unfortunately human toothpaste or baking soda is not a good option and can be potentially dangerous for your dog.
Use the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to clean below the gum line. When it comes to frequency, try to brush its teeth as much as possible. If your pet is uncomfortable with the brushing, dry food is better for the teeth than wet food.
Additionally, you can give your dog special bones and toys that are made to strengthen the gums.
Between six months and once a year, take your dog into the vet for a professional cleaning. Just like humans, they need some extra help every once in a while to maintain their pearly whites.
Lastly, if your dog has bad breath or other signs of poor oral hygiene, consult with your vet for further instructions.
