Prepping your Pet Sitter

Planning a trip and want to leave your furry friends behind? Here are some tips to help your pet sitter provide the best possible care for your pets while you are out of town.

  1. Write a document regarding what should be done with your pet and residence if something delays your return.
  2. Leave a credit card and authorization with your veterinarian in case of an emergency.
  3. Make a list of your pet’s unusual habits or hiding places so your pet sitter is prepared.
  4. Buy some new treats or toys for the sitter to use if your pet starts to miss you.
  5. Leave detailed instructions on how to administer medicine to your pet.
  6. Let your veterinarian know in advance that you will be out of town and leave them the information for your pet sitter.
  7. Make sure your yard is secure and lock any gates around your house.
  8. If you are a renter, make sure to provide both your landlord and pet sitter with each other’s information.
  9. In case you cannot be reached, leave your pet sitter the name and phone number of someone who can make decisions on your behalf.
  10. Let a close friend or neighbor know you will have a pet sitter staying at your home.

With these tips you can enjoy your trip knowing your pet is safe and being provided the best care possible.
